So, who is telling the truth now? Anwar Ibrahim or Anifah Aman? I guess we must be truthful to ourselves that Anwar is caught with his own game now.
“He was trying to entice members of parliament,” Anifah was quoted as saying by Bernama. “And I was personally offered to jump to the opposition and offered a very lucrative position.”
Anifah said the post was equivalent to that of deputy prime minister.
Anwar has denied all this and has threatened to sue, charging that the allegations were baseless, untrue, defamatory and made with malicious intent to tarnish his reputation.
It must be a very painful revelation for Anwar when it was made at Washington DC, the very heart of Anwar’s power struggle and political agenda. And what more when it was revealed during a joint Press conference by Anifah and US State Secretary Hilary Clinton who is now looking at Malaysia as a role model which practices liberalisation in Islam and unbreakable policy against terrorism.
As usual, Anwar will deny everything that will impede his ambition to be Prime Minister. Except for his deaf, dumb and blind supporters, nobody will believe Anwar.
Anifah who is Foreign Minister said he will not apologise to Anwar for his claims about the offer by Anwar. Why should Anifah apologies when he has done nothing wrong and was telling the truth. Anifah said he had bigger tasks to concentrate on and did not have time to worry about Anwar’s threat to file to a defamation suit against him.
“I have no time to worry about Anwar. I have bigger and better things to do as Foreign Minister like helping with the efforts to counter the effects of the global economy downturn.”
Anwar meanwhile is busy his lawyer Sankara Nair who said that Anwar had instructed him to file a defamation suit against Anifah unless he issued an apology by Sunday. That Sunday has passed and let’s see if Anwar will file the suit.
I believe its the old same game and antics Anwar is playing. He wants the world to focus attention on him so that his sodomy case would be downplayed. We all know that Anwar is an expert in raising new issues and playing down the old ones with his oratory skill in separating fact from fiction.
Let me remind you that Anwar’s plans to form a new government on Sept 16 fizzled out and there was no physical evidence to support his claim that 30 Barisan Nasional MPs would cross over to Pakatan Rakyat to enable him for the new PR Government, except for Datuk Yong Teck Lee and his colleagues from the SAPP. But the SAPP had long wanted to leave the BN. And I don’t consider this as an achievement for Datuk Seri Anwar.
News that Datuk Seri Jamaluddin Jarjis, Najib’s close buddy, is tipped to be made ambassador to Washington must have sent shivers down to Anwar’s spine.
